With global water use growing at more than twice the rate of population increase, water scarcity – when there isn’t enough fresh water to meet demand – now affects every continent.
Whatever the reasons – physical shortages or failure to provide regular supply or adequate infrastructure – countering this scarcity is critical to life on Earth. And will require innovative financial and investment solutions.
Increasing scarcity is driven by rapid growth of urban areas putting pressure on neighbouring resources, climate change and agricultural demands. More and more regions are nearing a point where water services cannot be delivered sustainably.
