... In a sector so dynamic, companies that fail to innovate or adapt to changing security paradigms are at risk of quickly losing relevancy. For this reason, it has never been more important for investors to understand what companies they are buying when investing in the cybersecurity sector. Investors now have the additional challenge of recognising true cybersecurity companies from generalist security companies, or even companies masquerading as cybersecurity companies due to the ‘in vogue’ nature of the sector. Nowhere has this been more evident than in the 'defence' sector. A host of traditional defence companies are now masquerading as cybersecurity companies. This had led to vast numbers of investors getting unwittingly exposed to companies with little to no cybersecurity revenue, and even worse, highly quantifiable and real ESG risks.
