Pensions for Purpose is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Giles, United Utilities, to its Advisory Group. 

Richard has broad experience in the pensions industry and current roles include: member of the Trust Board for United Utilities and Chair of the Investment Committee, Vice Chairman of the Board of the Scottish Teachers Pension Scheme, Board member at Bambisanani (a partnership using sport to build bridges between students in the UK and South Africa), Board member of BDAT (a multi academy trust in Bradford) and Director at Ilkley Town AFC. He was previously Managing Director of the Teachers' Pension Scheme, a Partner at PwC, Scheme Actuary at Mercer and held an Executive role at TPT Retirement Solutions.

Richard is passionate about sport, education and looking after the planet. He says, "I believe we face a most urgent challenge in redirecting our future to protect the planet and the well-being of the next generation. With over £2tn invested, the UK pension industry has an enormous opportunity to use its financial muscle as a force for good. I intend to  use my skills and experience in the pension industry to support the transition towards a sustainable financial system that supports the environment and a just society. I am delighted to be joining the Advisory Group at Pension for Purpose in this pursuit.”

Pensions for Purpose’s Advisory Group provides crucial feedback on our business strategy and services. It also holds us to account by providing maximum value for members and ensures we fulfil our mission statement. 

The composition of the Group reflects our different member types, which includes: pension funds, boutique and large asset managers, investment consultants, and legal firms. We will add representatives from our independent adviser and professional trustee members in the coming months.

To ensure fresh thinking and diversity, all Group members serve a maximum of two years, after this term is completed the position is offered to members with a comparative profile, working for a similar size and type of organisation.
