Though not a new concept, investor stewardship  is increasingly being recognised as a catalyst for effective change and delivering tangible real-world outcomes. However, this heightened market focus on engagement has amplified existing weaknesses in the investor stewardship ecosystem and also introduced new obstacles to achieving stewardship aims.

The effectiveness of engagement is limited by:

  • Misaligned priorities.
  • An overfocus on metrification.
  • Ineffective execution.
  • The growing commodification of stewardship.

Consequently, investors, their clients and consultants face a high degree of complexity when it comes to undertaking and understanding effective stewardship and engagement.

This threatens to weaken stewardship as a lever of change and is raising questions about whether clients are getting value for their money. Action from all of those involved in investor stewardship is imperative.

In this discussion, WHEB will draw on their extensive expertise as an active asset manager investing in positive-impact listed companies, to outline the challenges facing investor stewardship and engagement practitioners, and to offer insights on how to best address them.

Who should attend?

This event is open to asset owners such as pension fund trustees, in-house executives and independent advisers, professional trustees, government representatives and consultants.
