This event will bring a delegation of asset owners (AOs) from the US to London Climate Action Week.

The discussion will showcase innovative emerging markets (EMs), climate finance opportunities and share experiences between US and UK pension funds, endowments and other AOs.

The roundtable will be of interest to any pension fund or pool aiming to make competitive risk-adjusted financial returns while enabling real-world climate impact towards a just and inclusive transition.

Objectives

Our experience of UK AOs to date has been those investors with a dual objective of impact alongside risk-adjusted financial returns have focused on developed markets. Yet finding solutions to mitigate climate change requires global action. This event will therefore extend the focus to EMs with concrete examples of institutional capital deployed and provide an opportunity to hear from:

  • Pension funds and other asset allocators in the US about their experiences of investing in Africa and other EMs for impact and healthy returns.
  • The US and UK Government’s offices and agencies, including FCDO MOBILIST, about the private capital climate finance funding gap and investable solutions.
  • Pensions for Purpose, and discuss the internal capacity building and external evidence building needed for UK AOs to better assess EM asset classes, including effective deployment of blended finance mechanisms.
