Over the last century, we have seen unprecedented real growth in GDP and have made significant progress on many fronts from improved mortality rates to technological advances. Unfortunately, in the process, we have chosen to ignore nature and have altered 75% of the Earth’s surface and 66% of the marine environment to satisfy our consumption and energy needs. It is estimated damage to our ecosystems and the associated loss of biodiversity, could represent a risk to the global economy of $10tn by 2050.

We consider biodiversity loss an urgent crisis as we are already living on borrowed time. We need corporates to understand their impacts and dependencies on biodiversity and ecosystems, the same way investors need to start allocating capital to companies to help preserve and replenish natural capital.
