We were delighted to host our Q1 Paris Alignment Forum asset owner event. This was a Chatham House peer-to-peer discussion for asset owners such as pension funds and those involved in the governance of assets.

Delegates had an opportunity to share experiences and to hear from Worcestershire Pension Fund who had already embarked on their climate action journey. This included agreeing a set of investment beliefs, mapping their whole portfolio (listed and unlisted assets) to the Sustainable Development Goals, agreeing an investment strategy to become more closely aligned to these goals, becoming one of the first pension funds to sign up to the Stewardship Code 2020 and publishing their climate-related disclosures report in line with TCFD recommendations.

Graham Hook, from Invesco, had a fireside chat with Rob Wilson, from Worcestershire County Council, to discuss his journey towards net zero for the pension fund.

The event finished with a Q&A session.

Objective

To promote discussion and understanding of the challenges of implementing climate action strategies for pension funds and how to address these.

Learning outcome

Delegates saw examples of best practice and learned from the shared experiences in an asset-owner only discussion. This enabled informed decision-making on climate action within a pension fund portfolio.
