This Q1 asset owner event was a Chatham House peer-to-peer discussion for asset owners such as pension funds and those involved in the governance of assets.

Understanding your environmental and social impact via the investments you make as a pension fund can be challenging. Where do you start? What measures do you use? How do you ensure your third-party advisers and investment managers align with your objectives? These are just some of the questions and considerations for a pension fund looking to view their impact alongside risk and return when making investment decisions.

George Graham, Director from South Yorkshire Pensions Authority, winner of our Impact Investing Award, was joined by Laure Villepelet from Tikehau Capital in a fireside chat to talk about the pension fund’s adoption of the Impact Investing Principles for Pensions, how they are embedding impact in their investment decisions and what’s next for the fund. This was followed by roundtable discussion with an opportunity for delegates to ask questions, share experiences and challenges that they face.

Objective: to promote discussion, understanding and adoption of the Impact Investing Principles for Pensions as a good governance framework.

Outcome: delegates were able to take the Impact Investing Principles for Pensions and examples of solutions back to their trustee boards for consideration in their own funds.

Suitable for: anyone involved in the governance of assets and pension funds such as trustees of corporate defined benefit plans, trustees of corporate defined contribution plans; master trusts; LGPS pensions managers and committee members, and in-house pension teams. Please note that this was an asset-owner only event and not suitable for asset managers or consultants.
