This event was an an opportunity to hear from Vicki Bakhshi of BMO Global Asset Management. Vicki discussed whether a 1.5 aligned portfolio delivered real world emissions reductions, or did it simply move money from high emitters to low emitters? What were the challenges associated with a shift from backward looking metrics (carbon emissions) to forward looking measures (the pathway)? How should engagement vary across sectors and what should asset owners ask of their managers when reporting back on progress or lack thereof? What were the data challenges with measuring alignment and tracking it through time?

The keynote presentation was followed by small group roundtable discussions around the following questions:

  • Can a 1.5℃ aligned portfolio deliver real world emissions reductions, or does it simply move money from high emitters to low emitters?
  • What are the challenges associated with a shift from backward looking metrics (carbon emissions) to forward looking measures (the pathway)?
  • How should engagement vary across sectors and what should asset owners ask of their managers when reporting back on progress or lack thereof?

A write-up of the key insights will be shared on our platform in due course. In the meantime, if you would like to watch Vicki's keynote presentation, please click on the button below.
