We were delighted to invite asset owners to our first Paris Alignment Forum asset owner event. This was a Chatham House peer-to-peer discussion for asset owners such as pension funds and those involved in the governance of assets. .

David Brown, a Trustee of Smart Pension Master Trust and Professional Trustee, discussed how Smart Pension are developing their climate action policy and addressing questions such as TCFD disclosures and setting measurable objectives.

This was followed by roundtable discussion with an opportunity for delegates to share experiences and challenges that they face. Questions debated included:

  1. Have you begun to introduce a climate action strategy for your pension fund? If not, what is stopping you from doing this?
  2. Are you setting public or private targets in terms of reducing carbon emissions in the portfolio?
  3. Has your fund begun to think about TCFD reporting? If yes, what has been your experience to date? What challenges are you facing/do you anticipate facing?
  4. What actions have you taken to date towards your climate goals?
These events are an opportunity to learn from the shared experiences of others as you move your own pension fund towards a Paris-Aligned investment strategy.
