Pensions have never been so political. A raft of new sustainability legislation, coupled with increasing scrutiny from members and the media, has led trustees and pensions professionals to consider their impact on society. But while government rules have so far kept a narrow focus on portfolio risks, a small but growing number of schemes have begun to direct their investments with the explicit aim of helping to combat crises facing society. Short-term challenges include improving healthcare in the face of a global pandemic, while others seek a positive long-term impact on the environment we live in. Pensions Expert and American Century Investments explore what impact investing is and what is permitted under UK law, how impact allocations sit alongside ESG integration, and how responsible investing might be leveraged to spark engagement with scheme members. The webinar included case studies from schemes and managers tackling specific societal issues, as well as analysis from legal experts.

Speakers:

  • Angus Peters, Editor, Pensions Expert
  • Guillaume Mascotto, Head of ESG and Investment Stewardship, American Century Investments
