... The Good Economy (TGE) recently released a report detailing the findings of its place-based impact investing (PBII) innovation labs. TGE's work in PBII is a central focus of the firm's aim to scale up institutional investment for sustainable development. This included the publication of an influential White Paper in 2021 and the development of a 3E Model to define the fundamentals of a good economy.

The PBII Innovation Labs were established to engage directly with the market and catalyse change. The goal was to connect capital to places by building a shared understanding of local problems and facilitating collaborative solutions. While the labs may not have found a single solution to local funding problems, they have significantly increased interest in PBII as a new paradigm for sustainable development. They have also fostered new relationships between local government and private investors, and uncovered systemic issues that need to be addressed.

The report summarises these findings, which are now informing TGE's next phase of PBII work, including the PBII Network, the PBII Research Programme, and their PBII strategy consultancy services.

Date of publication: October 2023
