Years ago, I can remember stopping on London Bridge as the commuters marched past me, thinking “there must be more to investment than this”. I began yearning to find a way to make a positive difference using institutional capital without compromising on the financials. When I founded Pensions for Purpose in 2017, this was my contribution towards trying to make that difference. I set myself a personal goal: to see 5% of UK pension fund assets allocated to impact investment before I retire (and I’ve just turned 60!)
I also wanted to create a company that had a very different ethos to the organisations where I had worked in the past. One that offered genuine flexibility around work routines, trust in employees to show integrity rather than counting their hours, and respect of and interest in everyone’s views in the team meetings. Becoming a BCorp has been part of that aspiration, being women-led, sharing our passion, being innovative, leading the way for others… I’m so proud of our wonderful team who are making this happen.
